Took part in Ellen Million’s Sketchfest again. Always fun and inspiring. The Eclipse seemed to be a popular prompt again this month and I got 2 drawings from that, one of which I played with colouring in GIMP, plus a couple more.
Prompts were Eclipse Dragon, My Black Cat, Beautiful Beast, and Total Eclipse.
And Ellen featured my Beast on her blog too! thank you Ellen 🙂
Gary Numan had that song in the 80’s, “Cars“, which I was minorly fond of but never interested enough to delve further into his music. On one of my YouTube music video binges, his new song, “My Name is Ruin”, came up and I figured “let’s see how his music has changed over the years”. Well let’s just say this song spoke to me in a way that “Cars” never did. It’s powerful, mature, rich, polished yet still with an edge. His daughter Persia performs in this with him too. I have been listening to this every day since I found it, so of course it was expected to show up on it’s own as an earworm, going through my head sometime, and that time was this morning.
Was watching many music videos before bed last night, so no surprise there would be something stuck in my head this morning.
I had completely forgotten about this song until last night, but back in the early 90’s I liked this song very much. Golden Brown by the Stranglers. (I know it was released in the 80’s but I didn’t get my Stranglers’ Greatest hits until the 90’s which is where I was introduced to the song) I like almost any music that incorporates vintage or antique sounds and instruments, so the harpsichord is what got me hooked on this song.
What I found last night though, that reintroduced me to this song did not have a harpsichord. Nope. No Harpsichord. Try Mariachi! How fun.
I recently did a study portrait of my cat and liked it so much I finished it into something more graphic-y and made it into a t-shirt. I got comments about cats and amazement when I confessed it was something I created. I enjoy doing pet portraits and usually try to draw or paint at least one portrait of all our pets. I have done portraits for others as well.
So here are a few images of the animals I have painted and drawn!
This month’s Sketchfest was July 21,22, and 23rd, and I was struggling with this one. The prompts I worked on were Abyssal Mermaid, Butterfly Dreams, and Solar Eclipse.
I was most happy with Butterfly dreams, but I would have to say most inspired by Solar Eclipse because I decided to redo it a couple of times over the last couple of days.
I did the extra Sun/Moon images on water colour paper, so perhaps one day I will work on coloured versions.
Tell me now how do I feel?
Blue Monday originally released by New Order in 1983. It was re-released several times. Here is the video for the 1988 version. I liked the song then and I like many of the cover versions that have cropped up over the years.
Knowing I was going to talk about this iconic music, I thought I would look around and see if there were other interesting versions. I was not disappointed when I came across a slow ethereal version by Flunk.
The Klutae remix I found is so creepy dance goth so of course that makes the list.
For years though I have liked Orgy’s version the best until I saw the video of Orkestra Obsolete playing it using instruments only available in the 1930’s. Wow!
