Usually what I call an earworm manifests itself without a conscious train of thought trail, usually just find the song running through my head when I wake up, but other times there is a trigger. Today’s song was triggered by a meme a friend posted on Facebook. A quote attributed to Simon Pegg. “I wish there was a place where atheists could all get together and sing songs about physics. I love being a rationalist but it’s lonely”
I wondered what songs about physics there could be and remembered “Why Does the Sun Shine?” which promptly got stuck in my head.
They Might be Giants covered this 1959 song written by Hy Zaret and Lou Singer, performed by Tom Glazer and Dottie Evens.
Turns out it may not get sung in atheist meetings because science has developed new findings and TMBG has even recorded a correction song.
At any rate, “Why Does the Sun Shine?” is a fun enjoyable song and even if the atheists won’t be singing it at their physics meeting I bet there will be a fine selection of They Might Be Giants songs sung anyway. They have a whole album of science songs “Here Comes Science”
And if the John’s are ever in your neighbourhood, go see them, they are one of the best live acts I have ever seen.
I had a dream once, a while ago now, where it was a post zombie apocalypse world. I was in a job interview, and the lady doing the interview asked if I had anything else to add. I felt I should confess, and I admitted, “well, I have shot a few people in the head.” She replied “Well, I don’t know very many people who haven’t.”
We finished season 3 of iZombie a few days ago but the theme song is still running through my head. Such a fun show. I didn’t know what to expect and there are so many zombie related shows out there and many of my zombie related dreams are not entertaining, but Rocky had a coworker tell him about this one so we gave it a try. Kind of campy, definitely comic book, and I have a weakness for things comic book.
The whole song is pretty cool.
The show utilizes music well, and I like much of the music they use throughout the series. I can’t remember if they have used The Cramps “Zombie Dance” yet. My favourite zombie related song.
EDIT: I found out later after I posted this blog entry, that George A. Romero has passed away. As father of the zombie movie this post seems kind of a tribute to him. Funny that my favourite movie of his is Knight Riders, a tale of Knights of King Arthur, but with motorbikes. It stars Ed Harris and has no zombies. R.I.P Mr. Romero.
One of the things I really enjoy capturing are candid shots of animals with their tongue stuck out. I am happy to get any goofy shot of animals but the tongue out is the pinnacle of goofy shots. I don’t often share them. I am never sure if any one finds them as enjoyable as I do.
Well today I am giving the world a big fat NAH! 😛
